Veterinarians
Dr. Tanya Carter.
Tanya established the practice over 30 years ago and works full time. Before setting up her practice, she undertook research on marsupials and has maintained a keen interest in wildlife disease throughout her professional life. She is a member of a number of wildlife disease and management organisations as well as being a scientific member of the Royal Zoological Society. In 2008 Tanya became a Member (by examination) of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (Animal Welfare).
Tanya is Vice President of the Australian Veterinary Association’s AVAWE (Australian Veterinarians for Animal Welfare and Ethics), serves on three Animal Ethics Committees and was a member of the Veterinary Surgeon’s Board 2003-2006. Tanya was a recipient of the Belle Bruce Reid medal awarded to Australia’s top 100 women vets by the University of Melbourne in 2006.
Dr. Helen Gibson - has been with us for many years and is an experienced veterinarian. Mother to three beautiful small girls, she is also a practising artist with a degree in Fine Arts as well as her BVSc. Helen works regularly on Monday night and on Tuesday and Thursday during the day, and on every 3rd weekend. Helen enjoys surgery and performs our complex surgery such as cruciate repairs.
Dr. Kerry Doolin has been part of the HVH team ever since her grandmother and then her parents were clients in the early days. Kerry always wanted to be veterinarian.She was here doing work experience when still at school and went on to become a vet nurse whilst undertaking a science degree and then veterinary science. At one stage Kerry ran the puppy preschool. Kerry is passionate about being a veterinarian and has a special interest in emergency medicine and intensive care. You can catch up with Kerry Wednesday night and Thursday morning and every third weekend.
Kerry will be on a well-deserved holiday for 6 weeks over Christmas visiting family in the UK. We welcome Dr Tim White who will be filling in whilst she is away.
We also welcome Dr Iona Maher who has been helping out. Kerry is due back mid January.
Nurses and support staff
Helen, has just finished her TAFE studies in vet nursing and is now a qualified veterinary nurse.
We welcome Laura, a qualified UK vet nurse who will be with us until mid January.
Stephanie, who has been with us for many years, works casually and has just finished her 2nd year of a vet science degree.
Kathy, one of our resident vet students, is a regular casual nurse.
Candice, another of our long-term nurses, works every second Sunday.
Georgie, our long term kennel hand, works every Saturday and Wednesday.
Resident Vet Students
In order to provide 24hr nursing and emergency care, we have vet students, Kathy, Jordan and Angela living on the premises, all of whom work as vet nurses when their studies permit. Leigh Ann is filling in for Jordan whilst he is away with his family in Singapore over Christmas.
